World Day of Prayer

On Friday, 6th March, a service for the World Day of Prayer was held in the Chapel of the Misericord. We were Catholics and Protestants, men and women, of many nationalities, conscious that we were part of a ring of prayer running around the earth from dawn to dark, over every continent and most nations.

The service was prepared by women of Zimbabwe, who bear the brunt of the poverty and political upheaval of their country. They struggle to educate and bring up their children and feed their family; they suffer sexual and sexist discrimination and physical violence. But their story is one of hope and a celebration of their faith in God. We were proud to share it with them.

The theme of the Service was from the Gospel of John 5,2-9
"Lève-toi, prends ton grabat et Marche"
"Get up, pick up your mat, and walk"

The sermon was preached by our friend Pastor Christiane Nyangono of the Protestant Church in Caen.

"Amour, Paix, Réconciliation"
"Love, Peace, Reconciliation"

God is love.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
And by Reconciliation through Christ we are reconciled with God.

These are the thoughts we brought away with us from a friendly and joyful celebration.
