On the 14th of July - 7th Sunday after Trinity - we celebrated Sea Sunday, remembering that our Caen Chaplaincy found its origin in the Mission to Seafarers that was established in Caen harbour by the end of the 19th century (see our history page for more details).
Our dear Fr Robert Varty also has strong links with the Mission to Seafarers as he was a Chaplain for the Mission when a Vicar to Appledore, Northam and Westward Ho! in Nth Devon, in the 80's - 90's. His responsibility included the Isle of Lundy where the Flying Angel Flag flew from the tower of Saint Helena.
Our Flying Angel Flag, which we used and dedicated on Sea Sunday, was sent to us from the Mission as result of our contact with them, and the memory of the chaplaincy work and care formerly here in Caen.
This care we will humbly continue with God's help each year from now on, with we hope some real contact again with the local seafarers.
It was decided that the collection would be donated to the Mission as financial support for their action all over the world.
